Jakarta - Prosesor Intel Atom memang identik sekali dengan piranti jinjing seperti netbook. Harganya yang bersahabt, serta konsumsi energi yang rendah, membuat kehadiran prosesor ini sangat digandrungi.

Kini setelah lama sukses di ranah komputer, Intel mulai berekspansi ke ke industri telekomunikasi dan kendaraan dengan menciptakan varian terbaru dari Intel Atom, yakni dengan nama sandi Tunnel Creek.

Berbeda dengan generasi Intel Atom yang dirancang untuk komputer, prosesor ini merupakan jajaran produk berbasis System on Chip (SoC). Dengan kata lain, Intel menggabungkan semua sistem yang biasa dijumpai pada komputer pada satu chip.

Hal ini pastinya berimbas pada rendahnya daya konsumsi energi yang dibutuhkan, serta makin kompaknya ukuran suatu perangkat. Melalui keterangan tertulis yang diterima detikINET, Kamis (15/4/2010), salah satu produsen mobil asal China mulai menggunakan chip ini.

HawTai, merupakan salah satu perusahaan mobil di China yang akan mulai menggunakan prosesor Intel Atom di dalam produk mereka. Dipadukan dengan peranti lunak MeeGo, HawTai akan menerapkan sistem hiburan di jajaran produk mereka.

Tidak hanya produsen mobil, perusahaan telekomunikasi bernama China Mobile pun ikut serta menggunakan prosesor Intel Atom. Prosesor ini akan digunakan untuk platform-platform tertentu yang menjalankan jaringan nirkabel mereka.
